Social Access Guidelines

1.

Provide assistance

Ensure assistance is available to website users and volunteers (5) by providing direct communication with organization coordinators or knowledgeable persons (16).

2.

Provide feedback

It is important to provide interactive feedback after tasks to both provide encouragement and so the individual can understand their performance. This is important as individuals with ASD often have difficulty with attention and verbal instructions, therefore benefiting from this extra support (12).

3.

Use FAQ formats

Use FAQ formats to enhance clarity and relevance to users (15)

4.

Be mindful of language

Use language that is sensitive to ASD culture and community preferences to describe ASD and how community based symbols and history may impact content and perception of the online platform (15). Additionally, avoid using sarcasm, metaphors and figures of speech as individuals with ASD may find it difficult to understand these (4).
